THE ORCHARD PROJECT INTENSIVE PROGRAM PRESENTS

PIG IRON TECHNIQUES FOR THE PERFORMER-CREATOR

WHAT

The Orchard Project is proud to present Pig Iron Techniques for the Performer-Creator, back-to-back workshops offering tools for character discovery and character-focused performance making. These workshops will be held December 2 & 3, 2017 in New York City. Participants can attend one or both workshops, which will be led by Mel Krodman, a member of Pig Iron Theater Company. Lunch is included in both workshops, during which participants will have a chance to participate in a roundtable discussion with Orchard Project Artistic Director Ari Edelson.

Saturday, December 2nd - Finding Character Through Movement

Pulling from the vocabulary of Jacques Lecoq and Pig Iron’s own methods of physical investigation, this 6-hour workshop will utilize rigorous physical exercises and on-your-feet writing exercises that focus on the discovery and development of character.

Sunday, December 3rd - Character-Driven Devising

This 6-hour workshop will focus on the performer as creator. Character-driven approaches pulled from Pig Iron's 20+ years as ensemble makers, as well as Mel's own devising tactics, will lead to the creation of original movement, text, and styles. Participants will spend the day working toward short performance pieces.

BONUS: Roundtable Discussion

Over the lunch break for both workshops, participants will have the opportunity to sit down with OP Artistic Director Ari Edelson and ask him any questions they may have about a career in the arts - from how to get an agent to where to seek funding, or anything else that may be weighing on their mind. Nothing is off limits!

WHEN

Both workshops will take place from 10am-5pm (with a one-hour lunch break).
