The Exchange's Orchard Project, the world renowned development center for bold theatre companies and artists, is now accepting applications for its 2017 summer residencies. If you are a theatre maker, storyteller, or experience maker, apply to the Orchard Project to accelerate your big idea.
Who we are:
Over the past ten years, the Exchange's Orchard Project program, now based in gorgeous Saratoga Springs, NY, has supported more than 200 of the most innovative American and international theatre companies and artists (check out the list!). Work developed at the Orchard Project — from new plays to musicals, from dance to devised theatre — has ended up on Broadway, the West End, and Off-Broadway, as well as at regional theatres and international houses.
We have updated our website to include current alumni projects as well as past artists and companies - lists that grow nearly every day, as none of our previous 200 residencies have ever been the same.
Uniquely Form Fitting:
The Orchard Project brings companies and artists together to share working processes and inspire new ideas. Our "Open Studio" environment, shared meals, and staggered schedules allow Orchard Project residents to see each other's work, collaborate, and share in the artistic process. In 2015, the Orchard Project moved to Saratoga Springs, NY and expanded to include public programming and sneak peeks of new work.
Not sure what that means for your team or your project? Our uniquely flexible resources can give you the time and space that YOU need to accelerate your work, and our artistic staff is expert at helping tailor resources. Past residents have taken advantage of everything from a quiet desk and space to think to a public cabaret setting to share a nearly-finished new musical. Beyond being surrounded by other leading voices and ensembles making their own great work, artists-in-residence often also work closely with our talented and diverse Core Company to devise movement, read drafts of new plays, design puppets and more to support their acceleration.
